Food Industry Competence Network Thurgau (KNW-E)
The aim of the project „Kompetenznetzwerk Ernährungswirtschaft Thurgau“ (KNW-E), also called "Food Industry Competence Network Thurgau", is to provide the food industry of the Thurgau region the availbale tools to assist in the ongoing changes and to give a perspective for a successful development in the future.
The food industry in the canton of Thurgau plays an important role in the region as there are over 4000 family farms, hundreds of commercial establishments in food production, some large companies and about 1000 guest farms together. A total of over 10,000 people are employed in the food industry in Thurgau and the total turnover is more than two billion francs. With the increasing openness of borders and the flexibility of government regulations and subsidies, the market environment is changing constantly in this area. In response to these changes, the food industry in Thurgaumakes available instruments which help to act over networks faster and more effectively. Similarly, the companies will be given support in order to face the future successfully.
This should be done with the construction of a Food Industry Compentence Network that covers the Thurgau region. The project is sponsor by Thurgau Trade Association, the Agriculture and Industry Association of Thurgau, and Chamber of Commerce of Thurgau. The Competence Network goals are:
- To perform among other structural and potential analysis, motivating companies to innovate and develop new markets, in terms also of product development
- To ensure the exchange between research and practice by means of professional events
- To create a network that covers the entire value chain
