ETH Zurich Science City

ETH Zurich is one of the most prestigious scientific and technical universities in the world. It provides an ideal environment for education and research. Since 2003, ETH has been steadily developing its Science City university campus on the Hönggerberg site.

Science City is a model university for the 21st century and sees itself as a place where science, business and the general public come together. A city district for a “Thinkers' Culture” is being created, where students, researchers and visitors can meet and realise new ideas.

The Science City site, which covers about 400,000 square metres, is surrounded by woods, hills and farmland. Of the total site, about 180,000 square metres has been kept in a near-natural state. The campus is therefore of considerable importance as a place to relax. It is a high priority for ETH Zurich to create in Science City an open, accessible place, which blends seamlessly into the nearby recreational area of Hönggerberg/Käferberg. In November 2006, ETH Zurich was awarded the “Nature Park” quality label by the Stiftung Natur&Wirtschaft (Nature & Business Foundation).
