Bodensee Airport Friedlichshafen
The airport Friedrichshafen is situated at the border triangle Germany, Austria and Switzerland and it is considered as the southernmost regional airport of Germany. The airport had already its origin when the German empire looked for a territory near the production facilities of the Zeppelin airship, in order to train his crew there.
1915 is considered as the year of birth of the airport Löwental. In this year the hall of the airship was completed, the airport was accounted for the airport of war airship and the first produced airship started to its maiden trip.
In 1928 the city Friedrichshafen and the company Dornier founded the Airport Friedrichshafen GmbH and one year later the Deutsche Lufthansa manifested interest in the airport and rehired its flights from Friedrichshafen only at the beginning of the Second World War.
After the end of the war the runway and the building have been refurbished, the Luftsportclub Friedrichshafen (LCS) Aviation Sport Club has been founded and thus the flights for people started again.
In 1988 the construction of a new terminal began and during the following years extension and renovation activities have been continuously carried out, the airport received direct connection to the railroad line and invested in an instrument landing system in order to ensure a regular air traffic in bad weather.
Since 1998 the airport Friedrichshafen GmbH is the sole owner of the airport through a sales contract with the Federal Republic of Germany.
The airport Friedrichshafen also offers different services for businesses. One example is the meeting rooms. The air-conditioned meeting rooms are located at the first floor of the Terminal.
