Holzcluster Salzburg
Salzburg is rich in timber, over 50% of the province is covered with forests. Forest and wood related businesses play an important role in the economy; indeed we speak about the second strongest business branch after Tourism.
Beside a small number of powerful industries our woodworking companies (close to 1.000 in number) are small and medium sized family owned companies. This structure is flexible and sane, with enterprises embedded in a strong regional business network.
In the Salzburg Wood Cluster we pursue one guiding principle: We empower enterprises to cooperate with each other, thus enhancing their corporate earning power. Upon the initiative of the Federal Province of Salzburg, a professional cluster management was installed in April 2000, which is integrated in proHolz, an association whose core competence is to promote wood and timber products. It is our strategy to enable open-minded enterprises that are ready to learn to cooperate with each other and thus to increase their networking activities. This goal is being achieved by qualification measures, market observation and by initiating R&D projects.
The fundamental strategy of the Salzburg Wood Cluster follows the following guiding principles:
-
Propagating the activities of the cluster
-
Putting the co-operations of the Salzburg Wood Cluster on a secure and sustainable basis
-
Focusing the cluster services on open-minded enterprises that are willing to learn and to co-operate
-
Continuing and implementing the formulated innovation projects, implementing the results in the practical work of the respective enterprises
