Porta Europa
The Porta Europa project will drive the economy and internationalization in Barcelona, creating up to 48,000 new jobs over the next 15 years. This project will begin with the urban transformation of 164 hectares and later be extended to transform 325 hectares of neighboring industrial parks, which will also include construction of 37,000 new housing units.
Area of action (floor space)
-
La Sagrera Intermodal Station and its surroundings (274,000m2)
-
Triangulo Rail Buiding (80,000m2)
-
La Maquinista (92,000m2)
Sagrera station will be the city’s largest building, comparable in size to the new Prat airport terminal. It has been designed to cope with a forecast annual traffic of over 100 million passengers, which will turn it into a multimodal
transport exchange hub between high-speed trains, local trains, the underground train system, buses, coaches, taxis and private vehicles.
It will be directly connected to the city’s motorways and ring roads via two one-way underground roads. Construction of new roads will also facilitate connections between the various districts of the city, to the city centre to nearby areas, such as the 22@ Barcelona District and the Forum.
The transformations at Sant Andreu and Sagrera are part of a series of urban renovation initiatives carried out in recent years in the east of Barcelona. The recovery of the coastline and the 22@ District are just two examples of these actions.
