Instituto Superior Técnico
The IST, founded in 1911, is a prestigious school of engineering, science and technology located in Lisbon, Portugal, with about 8500 undergraduate and 1700 postgraduate students, and an academic staff of over 700 professors with a PhD.
An autonomous institute within the Technical University of Lisbon, IST is a research oriented school, settled in two campi, one in central Lisbon and another one in the Taguspark, a science and technology park in the Lisbon area, where more than 130 technology-based companies are settled. IST offers a variety of graduation, MSc and PhD programs, including not only the classical engineering and basic science fields but also a number of the emerging ones.
IST is organized in departments, research centres and institutes, all involved in teaching and research. External panels of experts periodically evaluate these activities. Research and services contribute to about half of the IST turnover.
IST cooperates worldwide with some of the best universities and R&D institutions, and is a member of various European networks of prestigious schools in Engineering, Science and Technology, such as CLUSTER, TIME, and CESAER, committed to provide technical education at the highest international standards.
