Ásbrú Enterprise Park
Ásbrú is a new name for the development which has taken place on the former Nato defence area. When the U.S. Military left the area after being there for 60 years, a new company, Keflavik Airport Development Company ehf. - Kadeco, was founded with the goal of putting the defence area and its facilities to civilian use. Kadeco is wholly owned by the Prime Ministry of Iceland.
The goal and purpose of Kadeco is to lead the development and transformation of the former defence area, now known as Ásbrú, for civilian use. Part of that process is necessary preparation work, assessment of the area and facilities as well as assessment of development- and growth opportunities in cooperation with invested parties.
Ásbrú Energy
Reykjanes has developed a vast amount of knowledge and experience in utilising green energy sources in the past few decades. A cluster of green energy is already in place which consists of companies that produce green energy, use green energy and improve energy utilisation. Ásbrú will be the setting for greatly increased operations of companies in the field of green energy. The energy cluster at Ásbrú will be unique on a global scale for its access to clean energy from the geo-thermal power plants in the area.
The Eldey entrepreneur centre, which is a joint project by Kadeco, the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Innovation Centre, specialises in green energy. The facilities at Eldey are 3.300 m2 and are divided into offices and workshops. In the workshops the companies will have the facilities and room to work on their inventions. Several promising new energy companies have already been given facilities at Eldey and more companies are on their way.
