Szczecin Municipal Government
Szczecin, the capital of the Western Pomerania Province, is the farthest big city in the North-West of Poland. It is situated on both banks of the Odra River, at a 65 km distance from the Baltic Sea, and it forms, together with Swinoujscie, an energetically acting sea port complex. Furthermore, it is here that the transit roads joining the Western Europe with Baltic Sea countries and the Scandinavia with the South of Europe are crossing.
Szczecin is the biggest Polish City located in vicinity of three countries: Germany, Denmark and Sweden, occupying unquestionable leading position in the Pomerania Euroregion in the Polish-German border and cross-border area. In addition, Szczecin is a very important transport junction - both in national and European scale. In fact, Szczecin is one of several cities in Poland that are linked with the motorway system of the Western Europe, including motorway A6 to Berlin and road no. 3 to the South of Europe.
At about 45 km distance from Szczecin (in Goleniow) the airport is located, servicing air voyages (flights) on national and international lines.
Szczecin is also distinguished by abundance of surface and underground waters (c.a. 16 lakes and ponds, including the Da.bie Lake and overflow arms of the Odra River for lovers of aquatics and water sports, as well as the Szczecin Lagoon).
