Invest in Sakhalin Oblast
In 2004 the foreign trade turnover of Sakhalin Region was 1,78 billion US dollars, foreign investments volume was 3,9 billion US dollars. These parameters in the basis have been generated due to activity of such large companies, as "Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, LTD.", "Exxon Heftegas Ltd.", "Bets B.V.", JV "Grenada", "Sakhalin Machinery", "Petrosakh", "Sakhalin - Troika", "Gidrostroi", and others.
For the last period cooperation in investment sphere has been directed to development of oil-and-gas deposits of the region, trade and economic in import structure - to maintenance of these works. Machines and the equipment deliveries, metal and products from it, chemical products, and various kinds of services were prevailed here.
Basically the commodity structure of export was formed due to production of raw material branches. More than 50 % was at production of a fuel and energy complex (oil, coal) and about 20 % of food and flavors goods (fish and seafoods) and raw material for their production, and other kinds of the goods also.
In immediate prospects 80 % of foreign trade turnover of the region will be formed due to export activity of extractive and processing branches. It is predicted, that in 2008 it will amount 6,69 billion US dollars.

In the long term the investment potential of Sakhalin Region will be formed due to realization small projects of the enterprises of the region as well. Such projects in an investment portofolio of the region are about 50 of a total sum of investments 311,1 million US dollars.
Among them it is possible to name such projects, as modernization of the international airport Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, construction fish breeding hatcheries and mariculture farms, production lined timber, other building materials, products from plastic, etc.
The special place is occupied by the projects of the fish facilities, traditional for the island economy activity. Today the biggest seasonal employment of the population is noticed here, due to this facilities the economy of many districts of the region is formed. Investments in projects of this complex are estimated in the sum of 48,5 million US dollars.
The projects listed above are only a part of investment potential of Sakhalin Region. Many projects which are planned to realization with private business remain out of attention of the administration of the region, many of them are only at a stage of formation. But even this listed part of projects, in our opinion, creates good prospect for mutually advantageous cooperation in territory of region.
