Minhang Economic and Technological Development Zone
Established in 1983, the Shanghai Minhang Economic & Technological Development Zone (“Minhang Development Zone”for short) was among the first 14 state-level development zones in China designated by the State Council in 1986. Located in the southwest part of Minhang District, Shanghai, the Minhang Development Zone covers 3.5km2. Minhang Development Zone has made remarkable achievements in attracting foreign capital, absorbing advanced technology, serving as a window to the outside world, making economic influence on peripheral areas and providing job opportunities. Topping the list among other development zones in six major economic indices, the Minhang Development Zone has set a successful example of mature development zones in China. During the past sixteen years, the Minhang Development Zone has attracted 151 foreign enterprises in accumulation, making investment totaling US$2.07 billion and creating almost 40,000 job opportunities. 28 out of the top 500 enterprises in the world have settled in the development zone More than 60% of the enterprises in the zone have made expansion for more than once and the supplementary investment in the zone averages over US$100 million annually. By the end of 2001, Minhang Development Zone had generated aggregate output of 17.8 billion yuan and made profits of RMB1.54 billion and USD 0.62 billion. The labor productivity was 650,000 yuan/year per capita and the sales income was over 5 billion yuan per km2, topping the list of all development zones in China.
The geographic location
Passenger Transportation Highways directly reach the Zone from the downtown and the Metro terminal is extended to the Xinzhuang of Minhang District. The public communications are also very convenient and the bus lines directly link the Zone with Xinzhuang and the downtown. The Xinmin elevated railway linking the Xinzhuang Terminal and the Zone is under construction. Water Transportation The cargo berth of the Zone is by the Huangpu River. The Zone is 15 kilometers and 43 kilometers from the Guan Gang International Wharf and Zhang Hua Bang International Container Wharf for 10,000-tonnage-ship, which can reach the main ports of different countries all over the world. Land Transportation The nearby Humin Highway leads direct to downtown and to the expressway network of the country. Close to it are Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway. The Xin-min feeder railway line closed to the Zone joints to railway network of the country. Air Transportation Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is within the distance of 27 kilometers. It takes 40 minutes driving to the Airport through Hu-min Highway and Qi-xin Highway. By the outer-ring, the Pudong International Airport can be reached from the Zone. The total annual transportation capacity of the two international airports is about 80 million passengers.
The basic infrastructure
- Electricity: Power is sufficiently supplied by the East China Network, forming its own power supply network within the Zone. One 110KV, one 35KV and five 10KV sub-transformer stations have been constructed in the Zone.
- Water: Water is supplied by Minhang Water Works and the water pressure is 200Kpa
- Gas: The calorific value is 14.63-15.88 megajoule/m3. Supply pressure: over 1200Pa.
- Telecommunications: Program-controlled telephone lines and provided. IDD, telex and fax can be at any time at request.
- Sewage drainage: There are 54 lines for rain and sewage, with a total length of 41.9 kilometers. Six pump stations for rain and sewage are built with 20 sets of equipment installed. The drainage capacity is 21.16m3/second.
