Minnesota Biobusiness Center
Rochester is poised to become one of the leading bio-business centers in the world. We are home to Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics. The new University of Minnesota Rochester campus includes signature programs in bio-infomatics, computational biology and a host of related programs. IBM’s Life Sciences Research and Development Lab is located here. BlueGene, the world’s fastest computer, was developed at IBM Rochester.
The Minnesota BioBusiness Center, strategically located downtown and adjacent to the Clinic, the Partnership and UMR, is being developed by the City of Rochester’s Economic Development Authority. Our goal is to bring new high quality to jobs to Rochester and the state by providing a location for biotechnology and medical device companies that want to take advantage of the Center’s proximity to these research and development institutions.
The 8 story, 124,000 BioBusiness Center was completed in early spring 2009. The building is connected to downtown, Mayo, and UMR by a climate controlled pedestrian skyway system. Ample parking is available in a newly expanded municipal garage.
The Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, with its Office of Intellectual Property office is one of the anchor tenants in the building. The remaining leasable space includes approximately 4,000 square feet of street level space (approximately 2000 square feet on each side of the building lobby), which has access to the skyway. In addition, there is approximately 7000 square feet of leasable space on the street level under the adjacent parking ramp that also has skyway access. The intent is to find retail / restaurant tenants that serve the building and downtown area for these spaces.
