Maryland Biotechnology Center

Maryland is the State for progressive bioscience development. Located in the Mid-Atlantic, Maryland is home to one of the largest bioscience clusters in the United States.  This location means two hour proximity to 80% of the U.S. pharmaceutical industry and over 2,000 bioscience companies.  Three international airports accelerate global bioscience business opportunities.

Maryland’s bioscience industry is diverse, with approximately one half in cutting-edge biopharmaceutical discovery, the rest in research tools development, medical diagnostics and device development, and all supported by highly skilled contract research and manufacturing organizations.

Other companies are creating gene-based diagnostics, integrating biologics and nanotechnology into next generation medical devices, and developing innovative R&D technology platforms.  More than 45 Maryland companies are conducting 160 clinical trials in addition to preclinical development pipelines for novel biotherapeutics.  Moreover, hundreds of clinical trials are ongoing at our world renowned medical centers such as the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, and the National Institutes of Health.

The Maryland Biotechnology Center is a portal to Maryland’s rich assets in the biosciences.  You can discover our companies, research centers and resources, as well as programs of investment and assistance.
